The Department of Teaching and Learning leads curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning across the district. It oversees the adoption and implementation of high-quality instructional materials aligned to Rhode Island standards, coordinates districtwide and state assessment, and analyzes data to guide instructional improvement at the school and classroom level. The department supports educators through coaching, induction and mentoring, and ongoing professional development, and oversees program areas including literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, the arts, career and technical education, gifted and advanced coursework, and summer and extended learning. Teaching and Learning works in partnership with school leaders to ensure consistent, rigorous, and equitable instruction from Pre-K through grade 12.
