East Providence School Committee Appoints Mary Sorice Assistant Principal of EPHS

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – East Providence High School has a new member of its leadership team, and she's a familiar face. The East Providence School Committee officially appointed Mary Sorice, the 2025 EPHS Teacher of the Year, as assistant principal at its Oct. 20 meeting.
Sorice has been a cornerstone of the EPHS faculty, guiding the school's mentorship programs, its Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), and its continuous school improvement work. Her wisdom, steady leadership, and gift for connecting with students and staff have long made her a quiet powerhouse in the EPHS community.
"When former EPHS assistant principal Jill Usenia was promoted to principal of Martin Middle School at the end of August, Mary stepped right in when we needed her and really contributed to a smooth start to the school year," said Superintendent Robert Perry. "That's the kind of educator she has been throughout her career. She is not afraid to roll up her sleeves and get down to work, and she does so with real grace and a collaborative attitude. We look forward to many years of leadership from Mary."
In her new role, Sorice will expand her work in supporting student growth, building collaborative teaching environments, and reinforcing the culture of excellence at EPHS.
Please join us in congratulating Assistant Principal Sorice on this well-deserved appointment.
