East Providence School Department Distance Learning Request Form- 2nd Semester
docs.google.comDear Wildcat Families,
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” At Martin Middle School we are moving forward! We are looking forward to things getting better as we move through the school year. We are excited to offer many after school activities both virtual and in person. Basketball is the first sport we have had a MMS in ten months and I’m excited to get back into coaching our girls basketball team.
We will begin to share information about testing taking place at schools including Martin over the next few weeks. This is completely voluntary and will require parent permission. We will continue to share information as well begin to plan for these events. There are links within the Wildcat News Link from Superintendent Crowley, Nurse Wallace, as well as a permission slip. As parents and guardians, you will make the decision about testing for your family and we will support all of our kids as always.

Important School Department Update
We have been asked to remind families about guidelines related to travel to other states. Those who have travelled outside Rhode Island to a state where more that 5% of COVID tests are positive must quarantine for 14 days and self-monitor for symptoms before returning for in-person learning. As an exception, a student may provide proof of a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival at school. However, students still need to monitor for symptoms for 14 days, wear a mask while near people who they don’t live with, and follow physical distancing guidelines. If you have questions about this, please contact Nurse Wallace (dwallace@epschoolsri.com).
We are scheduled to return to our building Monday, January 11th.
In Person Learners will return to the school building and Distance Learners will continue to engage in distance learning. In Person learners who have traveled outside Rhode Island after December 27th must quarantine for 14 days upon their return and self-monitor for symptoms before returning for in-person learning. This excludes travel to Vermont. If your child has traveled, you may provide proof of a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours upon return to Rhode Island. However, students still need to monitor for symptoms for 14 days, wear a mask while near people with whom they don’t live with, and follow physical distancing guidelines. If your child travelled internationally, he/she must complete 14 days of quarantine with no test out option. Please use covid.ri.gov/testing to access Rhode Island testing sites that accommodate asymptomatic testing. Two examples of this are The Dunkin Donuts Center that does same day testing with the BinaxNOW test and McCoy stadium who also provides results on the same day. If you have questions about this, please contact Nurse Wallace (dwallace@epschoolsri.com).
Students who are experiencing COVID symptoms can be tested at the East Providence site by calling 844-857-1814.
Thank you for helping to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus and keeping our school community safe.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday.
We all follow our distance learning schedule on Monday, January 4th. 2021 through Friday, January 8th, 2021. We will resume our hybrid schedule as we did in the first semester on Monday, January 11th. Reminder if you were in person during the first semester (September - December) then you will continue to follow the same schedule you did during this school year. If you were full distance learning during the first semester then you will continue to be a full distance learner until February 5th. If you wish to continue full distance learning for the remainder of the school year, then please complete the form below.
Note that this is a reset for distance learners, meaning that if you are in distance learning currently for the first semester and you would like to continue in distance learning for the second semester then you need to complete the form.
This form will close on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. You do NOT need to complete the survey if you would like your child to be in-person for the second semester. If the survey is not completed your child will be assigned to in-person learning. Requests made after January 6th are not guaranteed.

If you have completed the form, or you are not sure if you completed the form because this is such a busy time of year, then please email me wblack@epschoolsri.com and I will confirm your status. Believe me, I send a lot of emails, so I want to make sure you get what you need...so just reach out with any questions.
Remember that if you choose distance learning or in person learning, then you are making the right decision for you and your family. We support all of our learners and we are all Wildcats!!!
