Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff,
On June 2, 2021, the CDC released new guidelines concerning mask wearing while outdoors.
The guidance states that schools may allow individuals to remove masks while outdoors.
The CDC announcement was followed by Governor McKee’s Executive Order concerning mask wearing. Vaccinated and unvaccinated Rhode Islanders will no longer be required to wear masks while outdoors. Unvaccinated individuals are still strongly encouraged to wear masks in crowded outdoor settings.
This guidance applies to all ages. In response to this new guidance, the East Providence School District is advising you of changes to our mask wearing policy.

This new guidance applies to both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.
1. Masks are no longer required at recess, physical education, athletics or other activities which take place outdoors on school grounds.
2. If your student wants to wear a mask outdoors, they may do so.
3. Students and staff will be expected to continue to wear a mask indoors. Gaiters and vented masks are not acceptable.
4. When students and staff return to classes, hand sanitizer will be required to wash their hands. Masks will
be worn properly, covering both nose and mouth completely.
5. Students, staff, and all visitors are required to wear a mask inside all school buildings across the district.
6. Social distancing practices will continue.

At this time, there are no changes to indoor mask guidance in school settings. Guidance may be revised when/if the CDC/RIDOH releases new information.

Thank you.
