Dear East Providence Educational Community,
I would like to begin by saying thank you for your dedication to the students of East Providence during his pandemic.
Last week Governor Gina Raimondo asked the citizens of Rhode Island to take a pause for two weeks due to the increasing number of positive cases and hospitalizations in the state. Let me explain how this pause relates to the East Providence School District.
The Governor stated K-8 schools will remain open for the current time. However, we may need to move to distance learning in a grade, a classroom or an entire school due to COVID related issues. Those decisions are made on a school by school basis related to quarantine issues, substitute availability and number of positive cases in a school.
The Governor announced that Rhode Island high schools could move to distance learning. We are currently following our hybrid model at East Providence but that could change at any time, again related to the number of positive cases, quarantining and the lack of substitute teachers.
East Providence recognizes the importance of in-person learning for all students. However, the safety of students and staff is a priority. Please realize the current in-person learning direction could change at any time. Thank you again for your dedication and professionalism and please stay safe.
We encourage you to remember:
1) Wash hands often – minimum of 20 seconds
2) Do not congregate in areas inside the school
3) Wear masks at all times
4) Limit your gatherings to five people within your household
5) Do not attend any unauthorized sporting events
6) Practice social distancing at all times
Stay safe and we will get through this together and we will be stronger for it.
Sincerely,
Kathryn M. Crowley
Superintendent of Schools
